Tom Yuen (YCK), SGX Academy Speaker
Tom Yuen is a futures trader with extensive system-based trading and execution experience, and a strong background in quantitative technical analysis. YCK’s futures trading experience spans over 20 years with the first 13 years spent as a floor/pit trader with Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX), now known as SGX-DT, Local.
With no formal training in the financial discipline, he developed his edge through his strength from the technical field, coupled with an immense interest in psychology, he created trading methodologies that is derived purely from Technical Analysis, with a delicate blend of mass psychology. He quit his job and joined SIMEX in 1992 and traded his own account from day 1. At the end of the first year, he managed to match his last drawn pay as a software engineer, and was experiencing exponential pay increment for his subsequent years.
After the trading pit closed, YCK was approached by SGX to assist the exchange in conducting formal training courses. With more than 20 years of training and coaching experience, covering areas ranging from youth leadership, risks and rewards of trading, technical analysis, money management to financial literacy, he is one of the key mentors (invited and endorsed by SGX-DT) who regularly conducts training classes for aspiring traders, as well as running seminars in Malaysia and Thailand, sharing trading experiences not only to retails, but also to prop teams.
Colin Ng, Head of Asia Equities, UOB Asset Management
Colin re-joined UOBAM in October 2012 as Head of Asia (ex Japan) Equities. He is responsible for overseeing the ongoing development of the Asian equity research and investment capabilities. He has supervisory responsibilities for the specialist equity teams of Greater China and ASEAN. Prior to joining UOBAM, Colin was the Head of Asian Equities in Baring Asset Management and Manulife Asset Management. Based in Hong Kong, he took the lead role in the management of Asia ex Japan equity products and various institutional mandates. Between 2005 to early 2009, he was the Head of Asia Equities at UOBAM, where he led a team successfully managing a range of Asian core and sector mandates. Colin has collected several accolades for his success as a portfolio manager. These include the 2024 and 2023 Lipper Award for the United Greater China fund, which is rated 5-stars by Morningstar, as well as the 2007 Lipper Award for the United Asia Fund. Morningstar also recognised the United Regional Growth fund as the best performing Asia Pacific equity fund in 2008. Colin holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) from National University of Singapore and a Masters degree in Applied Finance from Macquarie University in Australia. He has more than 31 years of investment experience.
Roger Leng, Director, Intermediary Sales, UOB Asset Management
Roger is part of UOBAM Intermediary Sales team covering the Independent Financial Advisers (IFA) and Insurers segment, overseeing Assets Under Management (AUM) growth and strategic partnerships with existing and potential clients. He has over 13 years of experience in financial advisory. Roger has experience in the online wealth management business, covering both Direct-to-Client sales, Direct-to-Corporate relationship management and digitalisation strategy planning. He spent 7 years at iFAST Financial, taking on various portfolios which include, Sales and Advisory, Marketing and Content and Client Services. He is also familiar with the regulatory environment and played a vital role in the business unit’s strategy planning. Prior to UOBAM, he was with UOBKayHian, where he was responsible for the online UTRADE trading platform and the Unit Trust Marketing & Research team. He sets the overall direction on how the business unit should move forward in terms of the development of the trading platform and also the sales approach for unit trust marketing team. Roger graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) from Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
Kang Wei Chin, Director, Securities Trading, Equities – Securities, SGX Group
Wei Chin brings over a decade of expertise in the financial industry, currently overseeing ETF product management at SGX. In this capacity, he collaborates with industry stakeholders to innovate and advocate for ETFs within the investment community. Prior to this role, Wei Chin gained valuable experience in West Africa, where he held various positions in financial and capital markets at Fidelity Bank Ghana. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from RMIT University.
